Marple Memorial Park was established in 1922 to commemorate the local men who died fighting in World War I. It was created by local families donating areas of their own land and remains a much-cherished community space. On a clear day, there are marvellous views of the Peak District.
The park houses the local library, health centre and other public buildings. There are also a range of outdoor facilities including a skate park, play areas, a bowling green and a French boules court. For more calming pursuits, the Park has tree sculptures and sensory gardens.
Toilets are available for use during park opening hours, although there are no disabled facilities. There’s limited mobility access in the park, but most areas can be accessed in a wheelchair via the tarmac paths.
There is a pay-and-display car park at the park if needed, but Marple station is just a short walk away. There are also multiple buses from Stockport that stop close to the park, including 358, 359, 363, 383, 384.
