Stockport, home of Blossoms, has an incredible music history, much of which can be seen and celebrated to this day. From the world-renowned Strawberry Recording Studios that were so central to Manchester’s music scene, to iconic venues, such as The Tabernacle where the Jimi Hendrix Experience performed in 1967. And don’t forget that Elton John performed at Stockport College Student’s Union in 1971!
The musical heritage of Stockport is celebrated and shared by Stockport Music Story, a local arts project created by husband and wife team John & Rosemary Barratt who have been delivering community arts and music projects in Stockport since 2011.
Visit the Stockport Music Story to get a copy of the music map, a complication album with iconic artists or register interest in a Stockport Music Story Tour. The tour is led by John Barratt and explores the Old Town area of Stockport – allow two hours.
If you don’t manage to book a tour, admire the music map on the walls of the underpass at Stockport Station; it must just inspire you to guide yourself on a walk around Stockport’s iconic musical landmarks!
