In July, the Walkaday initiative is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary with – you guessed it – a walk! This will be followed by a celebration event in Stockport, attended by members of Stockport Borough Council, local dignitaries, and walk leaders past and present. We will also be stopping by, as the CRP has been supporting the Walkaday initiative for the last few years. Perhaps we will see you there?

The event will take place on Wednesday 8 July. For those interested in the walk, the group will meet at the bus stop outside Marple Station at 11am to start a 7.9 mile route through some of our lovely local towns and countryside towards Stockport. The walk can be joined at various points along the way, depending on how far you’d like to walk.

Below is a list of the ‘Start Point’ options, the time to meet, and the mileage from this point until the end:

Start 1: Marple Rail Station Bus Stop at 11am, 7.9 miles

Start 2: Compstall Village Bus Stop at 11:30am, 6.7 miles

Start 3: Marple Old Road Bus Stop at 1:10pm, 4 miles

Start 4: Stockport Hydro at 1:40pm, 3.5 miles

Start 5: Woodbank Park Main Gates at 3pm, 1 mile

The walkers will stop for a picnic in Chadkirk Chapel Gardens at 1:05 pm approximately. Please be advised that the walking party may be delayed, but will never leave earlier than the time listed. You can join the walk at any point. Bring water, snacks and a picnic lunch. Check the weather before you set out, but it’s usually advisable to wear or bring a waterproof jacket. Wear comfortable walking shoes and travel to your starting point by public transport if you can!

The walk ends at Stockroom in Stockport, where the celebration event will take place from 4.30pm. All are welcome to join the event and help us mark this special anniversary.
