If you’re hankering after a train trip ‘how they used to be’, it’s time to jump on a Retro Railtour and return to the Golden Age of Travel!
Retro Railtours has been running day charter trips using classic British Rail carriages – padded seats and full buffet services – since 2008. The day trips traverse all the rail networks in the country, visiting seaside resorts and cities, coinciding with special events or interesting activities. Past destinations have included Edinburgh, Bath and The Lake District.
The next Retro Railtour will be starting in Cheshire, travelling via the West Midlands on a day trip to historic Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire. The Retro Cestrian Bard, as this trip is named, will be taking to the tracks on Saturday 22 August, starting in Stalybridge and stopping at Stockport and Reddish South.
Passengers will be able to buy hot and cold drinks at the on-board buffet, as well as enjoy hand-pumped Real Ales and wines. There will be a three-hour stop in Stratford to allow passengers time to explore the charm of Shakespeare’s hometown, before the train returns to Cheshire via Hereford and the Marches.

Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association (MCRUA) members will be able to access a 15% discount on the standard fare on this train. Anyone wishing to become a MCRUA member can do so via their website for just £8 per year. Find out more about membership here.
