Denton railway station serves the town of Denton in Tameside, 5 miles east of Manchester. It is one of the least-used stations in the county, with just one service in each direction on a Saturday.
The station has an active friends group which continues to fight for the introduction of a regular service to Stockport and the south, and Manchester Victoria to the northwest. Unfortunately, at present this station and Reddish South station doesn’t have a regular service.
The town had an illustrious history in hat making, with the last hat making factory only closing in the 1980s. There are now ample shops and restaurants, as well as the attractive Victoria Park, which provides a pleasant place to stroll. History enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the grade-II listed St Lawrence’s church, originally built in 1531.
