South East Manchester
Community Rail Partnership

Keith Whitmore

Chair of South East Manchester and Cheshire CRP

Keith Whitmore has had a long involvement with Community Rail Partnerships from the very early days. Keith was a Manchester City Councilor for the Levenshulme Ward and was determined to kickstart one of the first urban station adoptions which was achieved at Levenshulme Station with mentoring from the friends of Handforth station and involved a close relationship with the Levenshulme High School for Girls, and even had a welcoming horse at the station for some years!

When Keith was Chairman of Greater Manchester Transport / TFGM he ensured that Community Rail had a strong voice at the heart of transport decision-making and was always available to support and embrace many events and initiatives put forward by both CRPs and local Station Groups and was quoted by the Greater Manchester Transport Action Group as someone with whom we could do business. Following retirement from politics, Keith returned to his love of heritage transport and now chairs Greater Manchester Transport Heritage Partnership as well as Heaton Park Tramway Company, Bury Transport Museum, and the Bahamas Locomotive Society and is a Director of the East Lancashire Railway.

Keith is looking forward to the challenges of taking on the helm of what could be described as a new Super CRP overseeing the development of the Crewe to Manchester CRP and South and East Manchester CRP at a very exciting time when it really could make a difference to put community at the heart of our railways and stations
