The Mersey Valley Way is a 21km route along the River Mersey, connecting Stockport and Manchester. It became the first route to be designated as a National River Walk, one of nine to be created as part of a Government pledge for new walking routes in each region of England.
There is much flora and fauna to enjoy along the riverside route, with new signage added and investment being made to ensure the whole walk is accessible for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, pushchairs and bicycles as well as walkers.
Those living in the local community will have access to guided walks and opportunities to volunteer on nature recovery work along the route, including pond restoration, invasive species removal, tree planting and installation of bird, bat and insect boxes.
