Romiley railway station is at a junction for two parts of the Hope Valley line and has been built above street level. There is a booking office (limited opening times) but no step-free access to the platforms (ramps are available for wheelchair users).
A cafe is located on platform one and serves breakfast all-day, as well as lunch items, from 6.30am until 4pm on Monday to Saturday.
The station is a good starting point for several interesting and scenic walks, such as Romiley to Marple over the breathtaking Marple Viaduct or a hike up Werneth Low (just turn left out of the station car park). The Friends of Romiley Station have published a free booklet of walks from the station. Copies are available from the station book swaps and can be viewed on our website here. The booklet can also be downloaded onto any mobile device by scanning the QR code displayed around the station.
A nearby attraction is the Chadkirk Chapel and Country Park, a 10 mins walk down the hill from Romiley centre. It’s always open, with various events throughout the year (more details on the Friends of Chadkirk website.) The largest event is the annual Well Dressing Festival at the end of July. The chapel is only open once a month, on a Sunday, when refreshments are served.
If canals are of more interest, Romiley station is close to the Peak Forest canal, which is part of the 97 mile Cheshire Ring. The walk towards Manchester is full of industrial heritage, while stepping out in the other direction towards Macclesfield or Whaley Bridge takes you through some beautiful rural scenery.
