New Mills Central railway station serves the town of New Mills (there is a second station: New Mills Newtown) and is 13 miles south-east of Manchester on the Hope Valley line. New Mills can be used as an interchange point between the lines for those who want a walk: it’s a 15 mins walk across the Goyt valley to the station of New Mills Newtown (on the Buxton line).
The station has a booking office (limited staffing hours), with ticket machines and waiting shelters on the platforms. There is no step-free access to the platforms and the station is up a steep hill. The station is covered by our colleagues at the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership.
New Mills sits on the edge of the Peak District and is a place at which two rivers, two railway lines, a canal and various road meet and create a town on multiple levels. The town centre is a designated Conservation Area and has various events through the year, the largest being the New Mills Festival in September.
There is a good community website which provides information about days out and lovely walks, as well as local attractions including Torr Vale Mill and High Lea Hall Heritage Centre.
